Understanding Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is otherwise called as Frozen shoulder or glenohumeral pain. It is pain, discomfort in shoulder region and affect shoulder complex like joints, muscle , nerve , tendon etc. it may occur during movement or rest. It is mainly causes during poor posture, age related changes, overuse etc.

The prevalence of shoulder pain is 20- 30% of adults. It is more common in older adults and middle aged people.

Symptoms and Stages

  • Stage 1: early weakness
  • Stage 2: strength of muscle is reduced
  • Stage 3: lifting activity is difficult
  • Stage 4: overhead activities is difficult
  • Stage 5: functional weakness of muscle
  • Stage 1: earlystiffness
  • Stage 2: movement of shoulder is reduced
  • Stage 3: reaching activity is difficult in patients
  • Stage 4: restriction of shoulder joint is prominent
  • Stage 5: Severe limitation of movement occur in shoulder region
  • Stage 1: discomfort of shoulder joint occasionally occur
  • Stage 2: shoulder pain during side lying
  • Stage 3: night pain occur frequently
  • Stage 4: during shoulder pain , Sleep disturbance may occur frequently
  • Stage 5: Persistent night pain occur during rest time also
  • Stage 1: early tenderness occur at shoulder joint
  • Stage 2: Tenderness may occur during movement
  • Stage 3: sensitivity of shoulder joint is increased
  • Stage 4: tenderness of shoulder joint is significantly occur
  • Stage 5: Pain and discomfort is prominent in shoulder joint
